All college advertisement must be developed or approved by Public Relations before publication. Image building and enrollment campaign ads are strategized, written, designed, and disseminated to the multimedia by Public Relations. PR is responsible for coordinating three major enrollment recruitment advertising campaigns annually, and various secondary niche campaigns, such as Cash for College, Day Under the Oaks, and Super Saturday Service.
The SRJC Graphics Standards outlines procedures for creating brochures, posters, and many other quality print products. PR offers all prepress services without cost to college groups developing publications. To schedule an intake session about your print products with the Public Relations team, call ext. 1633. Content development, editing, graphic design, layout, printing estimates, photography, assistance with purchase orders are all part of PR’s publication development services.
The Public Relations Office has digital cameras available for departments to borrow for special events or for projects related to marketing or public relations. PR also conducts professional photo shoots of classrooms, facilities, services to students, student life, general education and transfer, basic skills, and career technical preparation programs. Public Relations works with college groups to design, write/edit, and produce college print publications, including brochures, posters, manuals, direct mailers, advertisements, catalogs, among many other publications. Following a standard brochure template to present photos and content, brochures are designed for college units using unique design elements, photos, colors, and layout to make each program recognizable. If you have news about a program or you want to promote to faculty and staff, forward information to Public Relations by noon on the first and third Tuesday of each month for inclusion in the internal newsletter, Insider, which is published on approximately the 1st and 15th of each month. The College’s Web site is an increasingly important source of information and image building about and for SRJC. Since 2003, Public Relations has continued to work with college units to redesign the college Web pages, the home page, and top level sites. Web development occurs in close collaboration between Public Relations and college units. PR works closely with IT to ensure all Web standards are met in order to launch each site. Any program developing Web sites must use Web guidelines provided by IT (PDF) as well as PR’s departmental Web guidelines. When you are ready to design your Web site, give Public Relations a call at ext. 4679. Instructional departments can contact CATE for free Web development work and training at 522-2664.
The SRJC Editorial Standards outline the preferred usage standards and preferences for the college community. PR wrote the SRJC Editorial Standards to assist employees in producing consistent, well written college documents, publications, and Web sites that are reflective of a quality educational institution. The SRJC Editorial Standards offers many helpful tips on the correct use of punctuation and writing. Since the English language often changes as well as usage standards, this guide will have periodic additions and deletions of information.
PR will lend high quality red and blue banners that include SRJC’s official logo and portable displays and photo boards that work together to create an impressive professional exhibit that’s easy to set up. To reserve use of these items, call ext. 4266. PR will help units order new banners for their programs.
SRJC identity standards are designed to protect the integrity of the College logo and other identity elements through a graphic and editorial standards process that promote the quality and consistency of college publications and the Web site. The College’s Public Relations Manager prepares and distributes feature articles, news releases, media advisories, and PSAs to service region broadcast and print media outlets. In addition, PR also sends to state and national community college periodicals articles and highlights of SRJC leadership changes and unique spotlighting pieces to gain broader exposure. Using the services of various professional photographers and PR staff members, Public Relations has built strong photo archives of SRJC students, instructors, and college sites for use on the college Web sites, in printed material, the media, and for presentations and displays. Photo releases are used to obtain students signatures when they will be named in photos, or when they appear in images. If you have taken photos of college events or individuals that you wish to be included in promotional efforts, please call PR or forward via e-mail to email@example.com.
