The Grounds Staff

A photo of Nancy Nancy Moorhead, Grounds Manager
Nancy has been the Grounds Manager since 1985. She was an SRJC Groundskeeper/Gardener, herself, for 5 years prior to that. She is responsible for hiring and supervising the Santa Rosa campus crew of dedicated classified and student employees. She oversees the Grounds budget, which includes designated funds for the recycling program on campus as well as the care and maintenence of our oaks.

Joe Kirkwood, Grounds Keeper II
Joe handles just about any Grounds Maintenance problem that comes along. He can be seen operating a 5-gang mower on Mondays and Tuesdays, usuallly. The rest of the week, Joe takes care of such things as our fertilization program, irrigation programming and trouble-shooting, athletic field maintenance, or even putting up signs or fixing fences. Joe keeps all of our machinery in top running order too. He's quite a handy guy.

Syda Khaleck, Groundskeeper II
Syda maintains the far west end of our main campus. He handles the everyday landscape maintenance for the Community Education Building, Call Child Development Center, the Pedroncelli Center, Graphics, and our Facilities Operations Maintenance Compound. You will also see him operating a ride-on mower at least one day a week. Syda's is quite a mechanic, and is very skilled with irrigation installation and repair as well.

Troy Shaw, Groundskeeper II
Troy takes care of the athletic fields on campus, doing all of the field line markings and some of the mowing. He keeps the Putting Green green and the softball and soccer fields ready for play. His area includes Haehl Pavilion, Quinn Swim Center and Tauzer Gym.

Wendy Born, Groundskeeper I
Wendy maintains the areas including Emeritus Hall, Plover Library, Bussman Hall and the Doyle Library. Wendy's expertise includes a vast knowledge of California native plants. She oversees our Native Plant Demonstration Garden along Elliott Ave.

Virginia Zola, Groundskeeper I
Virginia can be found maintaining the landscaping around Bailey Hall, Garcia Hall, Tauzer Gym, and Forsyth Hall. Virginia is particularly talented at planting and caring for our annuals and perennials. She is very patient and skilled at breaking in our new student gardener assistants.

Tekle Zerie, Groundskeeper I
Tekle maintains the "front" of the campus, where all the "action" really is. He keeps the Doyle Student Center, Pioneer, Analy Hall, and Burbank Auditorium beautiful to enter. Tekle is responsible for keeping our outdoor stage clean and planted so neatly for all of the outdoor events.

Carl Dobson, Grounds Coordinator - Petaluma Campus

Carl has been the only Groundskeeper/Gardener taking care of the Petaluma Center since it opened in January of 1995. Carl single-handedly takes care of all aspects of the landscape maintenance there, including the operation of the computer that runs the irrigation system. He's a very knowledgeable and conscientious fellow.
